Getting your show file and activating your production license

Learn how to obtain a show file and activate your performance license.

Before you begin

Getting set up has two parts, both covered below:

  • A show file (.ktd), downloaded through the link in your KeyboardTEK invoice.
  • A production license activation method. In almost all cases this is a KTPlayer Key (a 24-character key) included in your KeyboardTEK invoice. Occasionally KeyboardTEK issues an activation file (.kta) instead, downloaded through the invoice link.

What's the difference?

  • A show file contains the cue list and track content for the show.
  • A license file is unique to your production and unlocks use of the show file for a specified period.

Download your show file

  1. Open your invoice email, sent to the purchaser from support@keyboardtek.com.
  2. In the table labeled Downloads, click the link in the Download column for the playback product. A link will open in your browser and a download will start automatically.

Activate your license

Almost all productions activate with an activation key (Option A), which arrives as a 24-character key in your invoice. Use that unless KeyboardTEK gave you an activation file (.kta) instead, in which case follow Option B. The result is identical either way.

Option A: Activation Key (standard)

  1. Open your invoice email, sent from support@keyboardtek.com.

  2. In the Downloads table, find the row labeled KTPlayer Key.

  3. Copy the 24-character text key (⌘C).

  4. Open your show file (.ktd) in the KTPlayer app. An Activation required window appears.

  1. Click OK. The activation key field appears.

  1. Paste your activation key (⌘V).

  2. Click Activate. A confirmation message appears.

  3. Click OK.

Option B: Activation File (alternate)

  1. Open the KTPlayer app. An Activation required window appears.

2. Click OK. An activation window appears. 3. Click Manual. An open dialog appears.

  1. Navigate to your .kta file and click Open. A confirmation message appears.
  2. Click OK.
