Getting Started with KTPlayer
Learn how to load your show file, set up your audio device, trigger cues, and hear them through your audio device.
Before you begin
- KTPlayer is installed on Mac.
- Show file downloaded and production license activated.
- Audio device available. An audio interface with multiple outputs is required for performance, but your Mac's built-in speaker is suitable for testing.
Open KTPlayer and your show file
- Open KTPlayer from your Applications folder. The main interface appears, asking you to open a file.
- Click Open. An open dialog appears.
- Navigate to your show file (
.ktd) and click Open. A buffer progress bar appears and the file loads, showing the main interface (cue list, mixer, and timeline) when finished.
Set up your audio device for testing
- If using an external audio interface to test, ensure it is plugged into your Mac.
- In the menu bar, navigate to KTPlayer → Preferences (
⌘,). A Preferences window appears, loaded to the Devices tab. - Click the Output device dropdown and select your desired audio device. Your audio device is now selected.
- Click the red close button in the top-left corner of the window. The Preferences window will close, changes are applied automatically.
Turn off LTC for testing
If your show file contains an LTC (Linear Timecode) channel (often channel 2 in the mixer), turn it off before proceeding. In the mixer, click the handle on the LTC channel and drag it to the bottom. The mixer will display the level as -inf .
Play your first cue
The cue list for all show files starts with various line test cues (LINE TEST, CLICK TEST, and/or LTC TEST).
- Navigate to the LINE TEST cue using the up (
↑) and down (↓) arrows on your keyboard. The selected cue moves (single cue with a thick, colored border and diagonal lines through it), and the active cue title (large text at the top of the window) reads LINE TEST. - Press the
Spacebarto fire the cue. The following will happen:
- Line test audio plays through your audio device.
- The Active Cue title's background pulses in tempo.
- Channel and master meters in the mixer display the current audio output level.
- The timeline playhead moves and the timeline scrolls.
- Press
Escape(⎋) to stop the cue. Audio fades out, and once complete the playhead advances to the next cue in the cue list.
