How to use quantised cue triggering
Quantised Go presses to the end of the current measure so cues fire on the downbeat instead of mid-measure.
Before you begin
- A show file is loaded.
What quantising means
When you press Go, KTPlayer can either:
- Fire the next cue immediately, the moment you press, mid-measure if that's when you happened to press. Or
- Wait until the end of the current measure before firing, so the new cue lands exactly on the downbeat.
The second behavior is called quantised triggering. It lets you press Go somewhere around when you want the cue to happen, and trust KTPlayer to place the cue cleanly on the downbeat. Most theatre playback wants this on.
Quantisation is a simple on or off. When it's on, Go always snaps to the measure (the end of the current measure), never to a beat or any smaller subdivision. So you have two options only: quantise to the measure, or off (fire immediately).
Quantise is on by default
KTPlayer ships with Quantize GO to next bar enabled. If you press Go and notice your next cue doesn't fire instantly, this is why: it's waiting for the end of the measure. To fire cues immediately on press, turn quantise off (see Steps below).
Steps
- In the menu bar, navigate to KTPlayer > Preferences (
⌘,). The Preferences window opens. - Click the Behavior tab.
- Under Cuelist, check Quantize GO to next bar to enable, or uncheck to disable.
- Close the Preferences window. Changes are applied automatically.
When playback is running and you press Go, the next cue waits until the end of the measure to fire rather than firing immediately. In the timeline, a vertical orange line will appear showing when it will jump to the selected cue. The active cue also turns yellow, in both the masthead and the cuelist, to show a quantised trigger is armed and waiting for the end of the measure; it returns to normal once the next cue fires.
When quantise is ignored
Quantise applies only while a cue is currently playing. If no cue is active when you press Go, the next cue fires immediately.
