Vamps, exits & quantization

Vamps are a key part of musical theatre scores, and KTPlayer makes it easy for playback to loop with you.

Vamps in the cuelist

In the cuelist, a vamp will be labeled clearly (VAMP ) and is often highlighted blue. In edit mode, Play will be set to (infinity sign).

When playback reaches a vamp, KTPlayer will loop indefinitely until Go is triggered.

Quantization: how a loop releases

A vamp ends when you press Go, triggering the next cue in the cuelist. What happens next depends on quantisation:

  • Q on (quantised): KTPlayer finishes the current measure of the vamp, then fires the next cue on the downbeat.
  • Q off (immediate): KTPlayer fires the next cue the instant you press Go. Use this when the next cue needs to land on a specific spoken word, not a beat.

Quantisation is set globally in Preferences → Behavior and can be overridden per cue in the Q column of edit view.

See how to use quantised cue triggering.
