Troubleshooting: No audio output
You press Go, playback starts, the masthead responds and the timeline scrolls, but there's no sound. The cue is playing, but can't hear it.
1. Confirm the output device
The most common cause is KTPlayer has no output device selected, is sending audio to a device that isn't connected, isn't powered, or isn't routed to your speakers / interface.
- Open Preferences → Devices (
⌘,). - Check the Output device dropdown. Is it set to the device you expect?
- If wrong, select the correct device. If it already looks correct, re-select the same device anyway: this forces KTPlayer to re-initialise the connection
- Close Preferences and trigger a cue.
If the device isn't in the list
macOS hasn't recognized it yet. Confirm it's powered (some interfaces require a power supply), the cable is plugged in, and that it appears in System Settings → Sound. If it doesn't show there either, the issue is the interface or its driver, not KTPlayer.
2. Check the channel faders in the mixer
- In the mixer, look at the meters as a cue is playing.
- Confirm channel faders are up.
- Confirm the channel output is routed to a physical output that's actually patched (the right speakers or interface output). See Understanding your audio.
- Look at the channel meter. Is it moving when you fire the cue? If yes, audio is flowing through KTPlayer, the problem is downstream.
Meters are post-fader
A channel's meter reflects the level after its fader. If the fader is at -inf , the meter won't move even though the cue is playing through the channel. Push the fader up first, then trust the meter.
3. Check the output and master faders
If individual channel meters are moving but you hear nothing, the master fader may be down.
- In the mixer, find the Master strip on the far right.
- Confirm the output and master faders are up.
- Confirm the output and master meters are moving.
4. Check the audio interface and cables
If KTPlayer's meters are showing audio but nothing's coming out of your monitors:
- Confirm the interface is powered and connected.
- Confirm the interface's own monitor / output level is up.
- If your audio device has a headphone output, try monitoring through that.
- Confirm cables between the interface and your speakers are seated.
- Try a different cue or a different channel, narrows whether it's the cue, the channel, or the path.
Only some channels working
The problem is almost certainly routing: the channel is pointed at an output that nothing's plugged into. Re-check the output assignment for that channel in the mixer. See how to set up your audio routing.
5. Check macOS sound output
KTPlayer uses Core Audio. macOS itself can intercept audio routing:
- Open System Settings → Sound → Output.
- Confirm the output device matches what KTPlayer expects.
- Confirm macOS isn't muted at the OS level.
Still no audio?
- Restart KTPlayer.
- Restart the Mac.
- Try the show on a different Mac with the same interface, isolates whether it's the show, the app, or the machine.
If none of that helps, contact KeyboardTEK (support@keyboardtek.com) with the show file name, your macOS version, your audio interface model, and a description of what you've tried.
