How to connect and assign MIDI input devices

Add, edit, remove, or reset KTPlayer's MIDI command assignments.

Before you begin

  • Your MIDI input device is connected to your Mac and recognized in the Audio MIDI Setup Mac utility.
  • An activated show file is required to test MIDI commands.

Add or edit MIDI command assignments

  1. Open preferences from the menu bar: KTPlayer → Preferences. The Preferences window opens to the Devices tab.
  2. Under MIDI devices, find your MIDI device and ensure Listen is checked.

  1. Click the Assignments tab. The assignments table appears.
  2. Click anywhere in the row of the command you want to configure. The row highlights in blue.
  3. Below the table is the assignment editor area. In the MIDI row, click Learn. The button highlights and the input field prompts 'Waiting...'.
  4. Send the MIDI message on your input device. The MIDI assignment updates.

No need to clear first

If a MIDI command already exists, you don't need to press Clear before learning a new one. Learning overwrites whatever was there.

Remove MIDI command assignments

  1. Open preferences from the menu bar: KTPlayer → Preferences. The Preferences window opens to the Devices tab.
  2. Click the Assignments tab. The assignments table appears.
  3. Click anywhere in the row of the command you want to clear. The row highlights in blue.
  4. Below the table is the assignment editor area. In the MIDI row, click Clear. The MIDI assignment updates to None.

Table may not refresh

The assignment table may not visibly update automatically. To confirm the change, select another row in the table, it will update.

No defaults to reset to

KTPlayer ships with no default MIDI assignments — every command starts unassigned. There is no "reset to default" for MIDI; clearing an assignment simply leaves it blank.
