System Requirements

KTPlayer is a macOS application for live theatre playback. The requirements below cover the supported environment for KTPlayer 1.0.6.

Operating system

  • macOS: Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
  • Windows and Linux are not supported.

Audio

  • Audio engine: Core Audio. Any Core Audio device works, including built-in speakers, USB / Thunderbolt audio interfaces, and aggregate devices.
  • Sample rate: show files are authored at 48 kHz. Your audio device must be able to run at 48 kHz.
  • Buffer size: KTPlayer supports buffer sizes from 64 to 1024 samples. Lower buffers mean lower latency at higher CPU cost.

MIDI

  • MIDI input: any MIDI device recognized by macOS. Configure in Preferences → Devices → MIDI devices.
  • Devices must be ticked under Listen before they can trigger commands.

Storage

  • Show files (.ktd): vary in size by show (typically 750MB-1.5GB)
  • Activation files (.kta): small (kilobytes).
  • All files live on your local disk. KTPlayer does not stream from the cloud during playback.

Network

  • Activating a license by activation key (the standard method) requires a one-time internet connection.
  • Activating by activation file (the alternate, for offline machines) does not require internet.
  • KTPlayer does not need a network connection during performance.
