How to save and reopen your changes

Save your edit-view and mixer customizations, then open them again next time you launch the show. KTPlayer keeps your changes in a sidecar file (.ktd.user) next to the show file, so the original .ktd from KeyboardTEK stays untouched.

Before you begin

  • A show file (.ktd) is open in KTPlayer.
  • You've made changes in edit view or the mixer that you want to keep.

Save your changes

  1. Make your edits as normal: anything in edit view, mixer output assignments, etc.
  2. Press ⌘S (or File > Save Changes). KTPlayer writes your edits to <showname>.ktd.user in the same folder as the .ktd.
  3. The unsaved-changes indicator clears. The file menu's Save Changes item greys out.

Where the sidecar lives

KTPlayer always writes the .ktd.user next to the .ktd. You can't choose a different location. Filename is <original-show-name>.ktd.user: for AndJuliet.ktd, the sidecar is AndJuliet.ktd.user.

Reopen your changes

  1. Launch KTPlayer.
  2. Open the .ktd show file (File > Open File… or ⌘O).
  3. KTPlayer automatically loads the matching .ktd.user from the same folder. Your saved edits appear immediately in edit view, the mixer, and anywhere else they apply.

If no `.ktd.user` exists yet

The first time you open a show, there's no sidecar. The show opens at the shipped defaults. KTPlayer creates the .ktd.user the first time you save.

Discard pending changes before saving

If you've made edits this session that you don't want to keep:

  1. File > Reset All Changes.
  2. KTPlayer reverts every unsaved edit to the last saved version. If you haven't saved this session, the show returns to whatever was in the .ktd.user (or to shipped defaults if no sidecar exists).

This only resets unsaved edits. Already-saved changes in the .ktd.user are not affected.

Moving the show to a different Mac

To keep your edits when you move a show:

  1. In Finder, copy both <show>.ktd and <show>.ktd.user to the new Mac, keeping them in the same folder as each other.
  2. Open the .ktd in KTPlayer on the new machine.
  3. KTPlayer detects the sidecar and loads your edits.

If you copy only the .ktd, the show opens at shipped defaults on the new machine: none of your edits will follow.

Activation is separate

Moving the show file and your edits to a new Mac doesn't carry the production license. You still need to activate the license on the new machine before performance. See Getting your show file and activating your production license.
