How to adjust the tempo of a cue

Change the playback tempo of an individual cue from the Edit View.

Before you begin

  • A show file is loaded.

Steps

  1. Switch to edit view: View → Edit Cuelist (⌘E ), or click the Edit toggle in the Bottom bar.
  2. Select the cue you want to edit. The cue's properties appear in the editor.
  3. Set the new tempo using one of the two linked fields, Tpo or Tpo % (see the table below).

Enter the new BPM value, e.g. 132. Enter the tempo as a percentage of the original, e.g. 110 for 10% faster, 90 for 10% slower. 100 resets to the original BPM.

  1. Press Return  to confirm. The cue updates and the new tempo applies the next time the cue is fired.

Changing either field automatically updates the other. They are two views of the same setting, BPM for absolute control, % for proportional. If the cue is not at its original tempo, both cells display in yellow.

Time-stretching affects audio quality

Tempo changes use the Warping quality setting in Preferences → Devices: Fastest , Medium  (default), or Best . Higher quality uses more CPU. Most rehearsal and performance setups are fine on Medium ; use Best  if you hear artifacts on heavily warped content.

Warped LTC doesn't work

KTPlayer adjusts tempo by warping the audio, however warped Linear Timecode (LTC) does not work. If the cue has an LTC channel, it will not work if Tpo or Tpo % are changed. See Linear Timecode (LTC) for the broader caveat.

Change the tempo of an entire song

A song spans several cues, so to retempo a whole song you change every cue that makes it up. Select the Tpo (or Tpo %) field of the first cue, hold Shift, click the same field on the last cue, then set the value the same way as for a single cue.

Use Tpo % for songs that aren't a constant tempo

If a song changes tempo internally, set the selection by Tpo % rather than a fixed BPM. A percentage scales each cue from its own original tempo, so internal tempo changes are preserved; a fixed BPM would flatten them all to the same value.
